Innovative Lens Implants at Advanced Sight Center.
There are always new and exciting developments being made in the field of ophthalmology. Part of what makes Dr. Howard N. Short and Dr. Chris R. Ullrich’s care so unique is that they stay on top of these innovations through continuing education and research. One such advance are today’s state-of-the-art intraocular lens implants (IOLs), which are used for cataract surgery and refractive lens exchange. The main difference between these two ophthalmic surgeries is that one is for cataract removal and the other is to correct a refractive error. Today’s “premium” IOLs can provide you with clear vision at all distances and reduce — or even eliminate — your need to wear glasses or contact lenses. Call Advanced Sight Center in Washington or Creve Coeur, Missouri today for more information.
The different types of premium lens implants.
If you are diagnosed with cataracts or are considering refractive lens exchange, Dr. Short or Dr. Ullrich will recommend the best type of lens implants based on your individual vision needs. They will explain everything in simple terms and give you realistic expectations.
ReSTOR® intraocular lens implants — The unique design of this lens allows for light to be distributed over five optical zones for quality vision at any distance. FDA clinical studies revealed that 80% of patients who had ReSTOR implants no longer needed glasses or contacts, and 94% didn’t need glasses or contacts while driving or reading the newspaper.
Crystalens™ — The Crystalens is the first and only FDA-approved “accommodating” lens implant. This revolutionary lens has the ability to change shape, allowing it to focus on near, intermediate and far objects. In FDA studies, over 98% of patients who had Crystalens implants achieved vision of 20/40 or better.
AcrySof® toric lens implants — This lens implant can provide patients with two key benefits simultaneously: It can restore single-distance vision after a cataract is removed plus reduce — or eliminate — astigmatism (blurry vision). AcrySof toric implants are the most widely used in the world; to date over 25 million have been placed.
Verisyse® phakic intraocular lens implants — These lens implants are placed behind the cornea and on top of the iris to give the eye an additional focusing lens to correct nearsightedness. The word “phakic” means that the natural lens is left in the eye, which helps the eye focus on objects that are near and far. This is only an option for very near-sighted patients who are candidates for LASIK.
ReZOOM!™ lens implants — The ReZOOM! lens has multiple focal points which optimize your vision at a variety of distances, thereby reducing the need for bifocals.
