Want Better Vision? Consider These Tips

May 28, 2021

Better Vision

We use our eyes all the time, yet we tend to overlook our eye health. We forget that having a good vision has a huge impact on our overall happiness and well-being.

Improved physical abilities, driving skills, learning and understanding, and overall quality of life are some of the benefits of having good vision. Having healthy eyes is critical to enjoying a happy, healthy life. If you want to have a better vision and improve your overall well-being, read on.

Regularly Visit Your Eye Doctor

Schedule regular appointments with your eye doctor to help you have better vision. Your eye doctor can share with you all the information you need to keep your eyes healthy. They can provide you regular eye screenings to determine potential vision problems. During a comprehensive eye examination, your eye specialist might conduct general vision testing. They may also take a look at the following:

  • Family history of eye diseases
  • Retina and optic nerve health
  • Near and distance vision

Regularly visiting your ophthalmologist will also determine if your eye vision problems are related to underlying conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure.

Eat Foods Rich In Vitamins And Minerals

Getting adequate nutrition is essential to maintain the health of your eyes. Foods rich in vitamins A, C, and E are necessary to prevent the degeneration of your macula. This is the part of your eye controlling your central vision. Also, consume carotenoids as much as possible. They protect your macula and facilitate the absorption of ultraviolet (UV) light. Carotenoids are usually found in green leafy vegetables. Zinc and antioxidants also contribute to better vision.

Better Vision Through Exercise

Regular exercise can also help you maintain better vision. Diabetes accompanied by obesity can damage your eyes. If you have diabetic retinopathy, too much sugar in your bloodstream can make your arteries weak. They can be susceptible to damage and rupture. Exercising can help you reduce your weight and lower your blood sugar levels.

Wear Protective Eyewear

Using protective eyewear can help maintain better vision. Two kinds of eyewear can protect your eyes. Firstly, wear sunglasses when you are exposed to UV rays. This kind of sunlight increases your risk of damaging your eyes. UV rays contribute to the following conditions:

  • Cataract formation
  • Cancer on the eyelids
  • Macular degeneration
  • Pterygium (tissue growth on the white area of your eye)

Secondly, use protective goggles when doing tasks that could harm your eyes. Goggles shield your eyes from shards and debris that cause injuries.

Take A Break From Your Screen

With the emergence of black screen technology, many people are now having difficulties with their vision. Excessively using your phone or computer can cause eye strain, dry eyes, and blurry vision. As a result, you might struggle with focusing on distances. Make sure to rest your eyes every 20 to 40 minutes. Try to get up from your working space at least every 1 to 2 hours to take a break. You can also try using eye drops or artificial tears to keep them moisturized.

Don’t Use Tobacco

According to eye experts, smoking is the number one risk factor for deteriorating eye health. Using tobacco is also associated with the progression of cataracts. Quitting cigarettes can also contribute to the overall health of your lungs, heart, and other parts of your body.
